Doug has been practicing law in Peterborough since 1974. Most law is contentious, with areas such as family, criminal law and civil litigation being “unhappy law”. Doug has for the past 40+ years practiced what he refers to as “happy law”, predominately real estate, but also estate planning, corporate & commercial, as well as estates administration. He enjoys dealing with the type of people involved with these areas of the law. Positive clients doing generally positive things!
Completing both his undergraduate and law degree at Queen’s University, Doug was fortunate to have played football with the Golden Gaels during the “Golden 60’s”, when Queen’s dominated university football, and he played on the 1968 Vanier Cup team. After a spectacularly unsuccessful attempt to secure a position at defensive end with 3 different CFL teams, Doug completed his articling in Toronto. He then headed in-land, to the Peterborough area, with his spouse Linda where they settled, and raised 2 great kids, among the rolling hills of the Otonabee!
Doug has been involved in numerous clubs and organizations over the years, including The Peterborough Economic Council, Kinsman Minor Football, and The Peterborough Sales & Advertising Club, but the one constant has been the Peterborough Family YMCA, where he served on the Board for more than a quarter of a century, and can still be found most noon hours attempting, somewhat unsuccessfully, to preserve his boyish figure!
The Walkers now reside in Young’s Point, just north of Lakefield, where they spend their leisure time with their 5 grandchildren, and exploring the beautiful Kawarthas on everything from mountain bikes and kayaks, to snow shoes!
Doug continues to be actively involved in his law firm where he still very much enjoys practicing “happy law” with his highly-skilled and personable staff, and his colleagues, Seabourne Geale-Barker and John Mesec.
